Bruck an der Mur

I took a quick day trip to Bruck an der Mur, a small town (16K people) that’s a half-hour train ride from Graz. It’s picturesque and has its own Schloßberg. Yesterday, I bought a DJI Action 5 Pro camera, because I wanted better results than the Polaroid Cube camera had been giving me. I also bought a bicycle mount for the camera, and I put the camera on it as I walked through town. See these videos:

Fraktur returns!

relief of faces on wall
view of city through archway
Gray stone sculpture in shape of a wave
Blue and turquoise tiles with rectangular lines and spirals carved on them.
Seal of Bruck an der Mur, carved in side of Heimat Museum building.
Logo with man in Lederhosen and woman in Dirndl doing a dance

At first I thought this was bad art, but I have concluded that it is just about the most authentic, honest art I’ve seen in a very long time.

The Well

This well is interesting, at least for the inscriptions on it. I think they are in a German dialect. They rhyme in German; click the speaker icon to hear me try my best to pronounce it:

The well itself

Well at Hauptplatz, covered with a wrought iron dome with many open spaces in the iron

I, Hanns Prasser, would rather drink wine than water. If I drank water with as much pleasure as wine, I’d be a richer Prasser.

Ich Hanns Prasser trinck lieber Wein als Wasser. Truncrhich das Wasser so gern als Wein so Kundtich ein reicherer Prasser sein.

That’s why I have been digging, so you can have a drink and drink without worry. And if you don’t have money, I’ll lend it to you. (Not entirely sure of this translation.)

Destwegen bin ich Worden graben, das man ein kielen Trunckh kan haben / Und mag mich trinkchken ohne sorgen / hat man kain Gelt so tue ich Borgen
