Graz–Jun. 12, 2025

I had to go out to LKH (Landeskrankenhaus) to change my appointment for getting the MRI evaluated. On the way there, I walked past the Hauptplatz, where they had set up a memorial for the people killed on 10 June.

I took the Line 7 streetcar to LKH. I had to go to what we in the US would call the “Ear, Nose, and Throat” clinic. In German, they have it in the order “Throat, nose, and ear.” „Hals-, Nasen und Ohren“. By the way, German does not use the Oxford comma, which irritates me immensely.

Signage

I walked back from the clinic to Roseggerhaus, which is a long way. Some signage:

Bewo Eksklusiv

I totally did not like the font for this sign (company name is „Bewo“).

Erdgeschoß

But I was totally taken by this font.

Sign SPRITKÖNIG, with the Ö vertically misaligned with the other letters.

Baseline fail.

Spacing between S, P, and R seems too large.

Not sure if this is bad kerning or a bad camera angle when photographing text printed on a curved surface.

Stylized block-style letters OMV; beneath them, OMV in plain font.

I like the upper font, but I can see why they repeated it in plain letters.

This is the logo for a veterinary clinic. The phrase should be „Und hier geht’s gut“ (it goes well here), but they use the word for animal Tier instead. If you know German, this is very clever, but, as usual, it loses something in the translation.

“Nothing for bank robbers!” Huh? The joke here is that the word Bank in German can either mean a bank (where you put money) or a bench.

Nix für Bankräuber!

Buildings and Miscellanea

Raccoon holding a sign: „Pelz gehört den Tieren!“

Fur belongs to the animals!

I have no idea what the text is about.
