Christmas Market Photos

Most of these are from Karmeliterplatz. Here is a guide to the Advent locations in Graz.

Christmas market stand: Churros Süsser Steirer

Ah yes, the traditional Christmas churros.

Two nutcrackers; one with a soldier’s hat and the other with a crown
Row of Christmas market stands
Two frameworks of animals with strands of lights throughout. One is a bear, the other an animal with a tail.

I have no clue what the animal on the right is.

A carousel in the mid-ground Uhrturm at upper left.

You can see the Uhrturm at the upper left.

Statue of Saint Nicholas

This is at Nikolaiplatz (in the Gries district)

The Communist Party

The mayor of Graz, Elke Kahr, is a member of KPÖ (Kommunistisches Partei Österreich / Austrian Communist Party), and the vice-mayor, Judith Schwentner, is a member of the Grünen (Greens). I was near the Volkshaus today, which is where the KPÖ has their events, and I got pictures of some posters and stickers there.

This (and other stickers) are from Junge Linke (the Young Left).

Drawing of sleeping cat. Text: you don’t hate mondays, you hate capitalism (junge linke)

Text reads: Communism? Yes please

Smiling red star. Text: Kommunismus? Ja bitte

Logo of the Communist Youth

KjÖ / Kommunistische Jugend (text in white on red background. the J has a star above it.

This one is sort of self-explanatory.

Top half says 15,000 new housing units or 225 Pandur tanks? Both cost 1.8 billion Euro. The bottom half says 25 new hospitals or Sky Shield Rockets? Both cost 6 billion Euro. Text at bottom: Against war and armament! For peace and neutrality: KPÖ

They turned on the lights on the big Christmas tree at Hauptplatz today. I was up on Schloßberg when it happened, so I was able to get some photos.

Half-moon over Uhrturm

That’s a half-moon over the Uhrturm, but it’s hard to see because of the exposure time.

Back at ground level in Karmeliterplatz.

Lit-up Christmas tree; primarily gold-colored lights.

Here’s the tree from ground level.

The Graz Model Railroad Club 🇦🇹 had an open house today. It’s a very small space, but really quite elaborate. (See a very short video)

Model railway; bridges and mountains in background, tracks and small station in foreground
Closeup view of model station
Rock face near tracks
Hills at left overlooking a road with a truck and convertible car on it
Clearing with trees; a family is picnicking there.
Bridges with arches as supports
Drawer containing model railway cars of various styles and colors

There were several drawers with model rail cars in them.
